Following the success of the many ultralight Chickinox models, Jacky Tonet designed an ultralight helicopter. This development led to the H2, a model engineered to comply with amateur-built aircraft regulations.
The H2 features a single main engine, a side-by-side two-seat enclosed cockpit with a windshield, and skid-type landing gear. The fuselage is constructed from a combination of aluminium tubing and welded stainless steel, covered by a polycarbonate fairing. The tail rotor is an enclosed Fenestron type with eight blades.
The first production models were powered by a 130 hp Rotax 914 engine. A later variant, the H2S, was equipped with a 185 hp Subaru automotive conversion engine. Both versions were available either as kits or as fully assembled aircraft.
A notable event occurred on October 28, 2007, when an H2S registered F-PNJT was hijacked in an attempt to facilitate the escape of a prisoner from the Ittre penitentiary. After landing in the central courtyard, the intended escapee boarded the helicopter, but additional prisoners attempted to enter as well. Overloaded, the helicopter tipped onto its side, and the pilot sustained minor injuries.
The example exhibited at BAPA is the first production (c/n 001), which was used as a demonstration model. It is currently on long-term loan from Dynali, who wish to preserve its history and heritage. We sincerely thank them for the trust they have placed in our association.
